Keynote speaker Prof. Nick van der Giesen (TU Delft) will focus on 'Sensing Water' for Water Resources Management:
- In the animal world, sensing is essential for animals in need of water in a dry environment. Likewise for humans in cities, with an increased pressure on water resources, we will need to upgrade our ability to find and quantify water. Thanks to recent developments in electronics and optics, water engineers can now build smart devices to monitor all parts of the hydrological cycle. With interesting examples, like measuring large scale soil moisture fields by counting neutrons, and a very simple device to measure individual raindrops.
On the program are also keynotes by Kalanithy Vairavamoorthy (Executive Director, IWA), Elizabeth Tilley (Professor Global Health Engineering, ETH Zurich) and Henk Ovink (Special Envoy for International Water Affairs); a Water dialogue; and Thematic Sessions on Climate adaptation, Urban water, Re-use, Water for Food and more.
